Historically, coffee from Burundi has been plagued by the notorious potato taste defect (PTD). A single tainted bean can cause a whole pot of coffee to taste like raw potatoes. Now, certainly not all Burundian coffee has PTD, but it is for this reason that we are very careful when we buy Burundian coffee. Phil tastes many, many different cups prior to buying to ensure quality, and further to that he inspects the entire chain of processes that have impacted the coffee to the point of purchase. We have found some incredible partners who share our desire to avoid PTD (notably the Long Miles Coffee Project and Greenco) and the future of Burundi coffee is incredibly bright.
